True enough. Only on Slashdot could a math problem designed for school kids be over thought to this extent. I should have realized that when the first post I saw said they should be using == instead of =, as if these kids are learning to program instead of do basic math.
Upon seeing the problem, it was immediately obvious to me that they wanted us to insert whatever number should be in the parentheses to make the statement true.
4+3+2=(7)+2 would be the correct answer.
If there is a statement with an equals sign in the middle, that means that the left needs to be equal to the right. If there is a blank space, and the two sides clearly aren't equal yet, they want you to make the statement true. Pretty obvious to me.
Yea man, it was totally possible to tell my phone to navigate to the nearest gas station 10 years ago and it would tell me exactly where to go.
Right...
Obvious troll is obvious.
No, you can't you Apple fanboy. Read the fucking article and get a clue before you run your mouth. Your iPhone does not have ALL these capabilities.
This update caught Android up to everyone else, and leapfrogged them all in the process.
I guess I'm not blessed enough to have one of these magical touchscreen phones. I'll have to keep using my Android and hope the next model comes with an automated screen cleaner.
Really? I've been downloading movies off of my Eastlink connection (I live in NS) literally my entire teenage and adult life and I've never once been throttled for it. What ISP do you use? Sounds like you are getting the shaft good sir!
I've always considered the school system broken because of this issue. All through grade school I had amazing grades because I applied myself and did my work. Sadly almost every team assignment I was ever given I was lumped in with a pack of idiots and ended up doing the entire assignment myself. Only a handful of times was that ever acknowledged by the school system.
The GP's post is tongue-in-cheek regarding whether they are willing to change. i.e. they are changing, by using tech to combat tech...to keep their main business model itself from changing.
Ah, fair enough. I hope they realize that is likely to fail miserably... If they don't update their main business model, its going to crash and burn. Hopefully this happens sooner rather than later for the greater good!
Nah, they really are refusing to change. If they had been proactive about this situation instead of trying to stick to their old and broken business model, they wouldn't be having any of these problems. They would have realized much earlier on in the process that the Internet is going to be the medium for media moving forward, embraced that fact, and used it to their advantage.
Instead, they squander their resources with DRM and other useless garbage that just flat out is not going to work. Making your product more difficult to use is a great way to encourage piracy.
Thats no fun! Besides, it wasn't used in that form as short form. Its more used as "internet form". Oddly enough most of the trolls on the internet understand it better than they do English. When in a place that speaks another language, the least you can do is learn it.
Its not like this is anything new... MPAA and RIAA are QQing because they are just like the newspaper industry: Behind the times and refusing to change.
Assuming your CFL does not die within a few months, as many of mine have done. And don't give me a load of crap about "buying poor quality" or "maybe you have bad electric".
You bought poor quality or have bad electric. I've been using CFL's in every fixture in my apartment for years and I haven't even had to replace any of them yet.
This is nothing more than a WASTE of money.
You are right on this one. Using old incandescents instead of swapping to energy efficient bulbs is a giant waste of money.
Why should I settle for a netbook when I really need a full-sized laptop or desktop?
You shouldn't, that would be pretty epic stupid of you to be honest.
- Why should I settle for Linux that won't play games or run Word, when a Windows or Mac works near-perfectly?
- Why settle for an inferior CFL when the incandescent does the same job, and much much better?
Linux does different things than Windows. If you use Linux to try and game, you are an idiot (Which you have proven with most of your posts thus far no less!) Why settle for an inferior power sucking incandescent when a CFL does the same job, but much much better? See what I did there?
We should be focusing our efforts on the big energy users like heaters and air conditioners (measured in 1000s of kilowatthours), and not trivial crap like lightbulbs which clearly don't work as well as the old technology.
Yes, because researchers have been bending over backwards trying to make lightbulbs more efficient but have been completely ignoring big energy users. Do you even read your own posts? You sound like a blithering idiot.

Where are my sharks with laser beams then!?

You haven't used a touchscreen phone if you really think keeping it clean is as simple as washing your hands.
So you are saying its Slashdot 2.0 then?

Thank you for mentioning this, I really should have included that as a footnote in my post... Ah well, can't win 'em all.

Agreed!
