  1. Re:Anyone care to elaborate? on Ham Radio Repeater On The Moon? · · Score: 1

...thats easy. Ham Radio is a hobby. Once youve got your ticket youre allowed to communicate with other hams around the world on various shortwave bands or on UHF via sattelite. You can also talk to local folks either direct or via repeaters using VHF/UHF. You can just gab, using your transceivers microphone or you can use morse code (anyone asking whats morse good for nowadays - just watch 'Independence Day' ;-) !!!) - or you can get into any kind of other technical stuff that interests you most. All in all its a great hobby with a great history. It was ham radio operators who discovered that worldwide communication is possible using short waves, while the authorities of the times thought such a thing impossible. Im sure many geeks would love it. For you folks in the U.S., check for more details at , which is the American Radio Relay League. ok, now to sign off as we hams do: 73 de Thomas, DL4OBN

Absolutely right. Ive lived in Asia for more than ten years and Internet Cafes have appeared like mushrooms after the monsoon within the last few years. Right now Im in Gemany, but plan to be back in Kathmandu before the end of the year. Should you get there ask for the 'Cybermatha Cafe' or check out 'Mercantile Office Systems'. Good service, cheap, fast - and lots of great locals and fellow travellers. Dont burden yourself with gear that might get 'lost'... Should you still want to bring your own, relax. Most places have all sorts of adapters and stuff, and dont mind at all if you want to hook up your own machine.

...maybe good for folks who have never seen a cathode tube, otherwise - I havent a clue... Just recently I set up a webpage for one of the teachers at our school. Hes a real Mac freak and loves his new iMac. Just to give him an idea of what the page could look like, I put in a few headlines and some text. When he read the 'Why is the iMac so ugly...???' he went ballistic. Doesnt talk to me since then. Hmmm, people are funny...
