We use a lot of the X10 electric products to control the lights in our home. Scripts can be written and run on a linux box to turn the lights on and off on a regular schedule. For example, our outside light is turned on every night based upon the sunset time.
I imagine that a handicap person would find this type of automation very helpful, especially if they are on a regular schedule.
