The author does not have to worry about a percentage of people alive to understand his article, it was written for a very specific audience and they will understand.
The fact his article leaked to/. and some of our constituency is no longer technically capable is only a curiosity for the amused observer.
I thought this was a very acceptable way of presenting the relative distance of the occurrence.
Those in the know can easily convert it to real measurements in their favourite units but for the layman the relative distance is probably easier to grasp.

They now demand of OEM vendors that UEFI protection can be disabled by the user but it's to be seen they apply the same freedom to their own Surface brand...

But you have to be able to understand/appreciate humanity is not ultimately bound to earth.
As a matter of fact, there is even debate if we (life) originates on this earth!
Yes it is a nice piece of hardware to run a Linux on.
But we all know the newer Intel chips no longer have a BIOS but instead run UEFI and MS has made it quite clear they'll use it to block any attempts to install unlicensed software.
So to fully enjoy this machine we'll have to wait till a crack comes out:)
You have some good tech but strange ideas re. saving on energy.
Getting rid of excessive heat is to be done by reusing it, not by loosing it into space (or more likely the atmosphere).
You write about the oil price, the installation of original article is positioned in Germany, one of the many countries that is seriously worried about an irrevocable human effect on the climate also know as the green house effect.
So Germany has like all other EU countries decided to promote renewable energy and best practises for avoiding waste.
One single but simple to check reason for some Muslim fanatics to hate the US is the occupation of their second most holy place by Israel and the support Israel gets from the US.

I work for a contractor and I have little insight in the contract between my employer and our international client.
It does not really matter, EU laws are protective of an individuals privacy, my contract is under Dutch law and a company reading my private mail is without very specific permission not allowed.

And I don't understand why people dish a whole OS just because one of the many desktop environments sucks.
MS might require such from OEM's but does that include MS?
Why would they?
