Perhaps removing the 'suits' - ie the people who are actually connected to the market - from the decision making process will give developers the space they need to add all their favourite features. Which, of course, can be simply activated by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-F4 as any luser should be able to remember...

Most developers I know, including myself, enjoy coding much more when someone other than themselves finds their code useful for something. Why would I spend all my time pouring my energy into a bit of code that I think is groovy and everyone else thinks sucks? </rant>
I think coders can do quite nicely connecting with the user community, if they were given the chance. How many times do the suits promise to deliver the customer's every whim without understanding the technical abilities or architecture of the product they're pushing? Therein lies the problem.
Thus, we're left with two options:
Get smarter suits, or
Let the developers spend time with the users
Open Source software takes the second option. Each user can be personally connected with the developer. I think the effectiveness of this business model has been proven by Open Source software already.
