You can live in India or Indonesia for less than $5/day. That's $150/mo or less than $1000 for 6mos. Skip the medical insurance, medicine here costs nothing. Then your only additional costs are the flight and a backpack.
But if you're looking for work, I'd recommend acting in Bollywood - India's slightly twisted version of Hollywood. They are desperate for pale-faced actors to be in their movies. No experience necessary, you just show up in Bombay and start acting. You won't make a lot of money, but it should certainly cover your living costs.
