You are paying for the right to that information. If the customer were only buying the medium (a $.10 disk), then the price of the product would be around the cost of the disk. Furthermore, it is no longer necessary to have a physical medium to buy the software product. If I want to buy SoundJam, I don't need to purchase the physical cd, I download it off the company's website.
