Only in the capitals (Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne), and only in some areas of those cities. I can't get either where I live, and Optus don't install into apartments, so when I move into one (as I'm planning to in a few months) my only choice will be Telstra (which sucks cause Optus' plans are sweet... and Telstra's ones are crud).

The way I see it... the free beer only tides us over until the free speech comes to the rescue.
'Free speech' applications in many areas are currently in development. Changine free-beer software to expensive-beer software can only serve to promote the production of free-speeck software such as Abiword and the KOffice suite.

Yes it was. But if you had actually read how it was accomplished, you would have realised that it was due to a configuration error. I beleive that the ftp root directory had been set to the same directory as the http root, and that one of the ftp directories (and hence a http directory) was writeable. It was a simple matter to upload a php script that would run programs with web server privileges.
I reckon most, if not all, web servers with a similar setup could be hacked [sic].

Is anyone actually surprised at this? I mean, your average Linux hacker and hardware guru would hack a furby and run Linux on it, if it were possible! -- "You take a distribution! Rename! Stamp CD's! IPO!" - CmdrTaco, Geeks in Space, Episode 2 from 6:18 to 6:23.
We can call it 'Cutie'!
There should be enough people out there that know Qt well enough to be able to do this.

If a commercial entity is exempt from being bound to the GPL in such cases as this, then the GPL is not worth the electronic bits it is encoded in.
Just my opinion (IANAL, usual disclaimers apply).

Kudos to them for publishing this article.
Especially given the treatment they got from Slashdotters when John Taschek's article was linked here.
