You can't be serious!?!? Dune was the best book ever written. Notice I left out 'sci-fi'. It has very rich character development. And the well structured background/history is one of the aspects I fine missing in most stories. Are you sure you aren't confused with some other book? Every time a read a Dune book, for weeks afterward the story feels completely real to me like I just read a book based on fact.
