  1. Re:Nader? Why will you be voting for candidate X? on Should You Vote? · · Score: 2
OK, I'll bite. I support for Nader for many reasons; as you said about Bush, I don't agree with Nader about everything, but I agree enough to support him. This is just my personal stuff, though, it's not a stump speech.

    In no particular order:

--I believe that the Death Penalty is immoral in theory, racist in application, and should be ended.

--I believe that the Drug War is also immoral in theory, racist in application, and should be ended. It's an utter failure and an embarrassing waste of money--my money and yours.

--I believe in capitalism, but I also believe that corporations need to be watched, and they need to be regulated. They don't exploit, pollute, and abuse because they are evil in the Snidely Whiplash sense of the word, but simply because they CAN. I believe in government by and for the people, not by and for the multinationals.

--Speaking of which, I believe, strongly, in campaign finance reform. (And no, I don't believe that two main candidates, who are dependent on corporate/PAC donations, are serious about changing the system in any substantive way.)

--I believe that basic health care is a human right.

--I believe that the minimum wage should be a living wage. (The minimum wage has actually gone down in recent years, in terms of real dollars and purchasing power; that should change.)

--I believe that this crippled, depressing two-party system is never going to get any better unless people stop bitching and start insisting on something better.

Keep in mind that Scalia and Thomas (by far the "worst" justices, from a left-wing perspective) were confirmed by DEMOCRATS as well as Republicans. Scalia's Senate confirmation was unanimous! Where were your beloved Democrats then?

The Supreme Court issue is much more complicated than "Bush=no Roe v. Wade" or "Bush=No Freedom of Religion". It doesn't work like that. Vote your conscience! Vote Nader.
