  1. Re:LETS BOYCOTT METALLICA on Ask Metallica About Napster · · Score: 1

    I don't think boycotting metallica right now is going to work. Because lots of people don't care if they are trying to ban napster users cause I know lots of my friends and me also don't care what they do because we aren't the ones getting in trouble for trading on napster and we'll still buy metallica albums

  2. Re:Napster users != fans? on Ask Metallica About Napster · · Score: 1

    If the law is going to be upheld your going to have to take the risk of offending people. Metallica has enough fans that offending 300,000 of them isn't going to hurt them much(I hope anyway)

  3. Re:Would they really have bought your CDs? on Ask Metallica About Napster · · Score: 1

    Would they really have bought your CDs? My thinking is they like metallica and they found a free way to get metallica music so they wouldn't have to pay for it. Lets say Napster and MP3s weren't around I'd say they would buy the CD. If they weren't planning on buying the CD they probably weren't a fan so they probably wouldn't be looking for free downloads of the music.

  4. Re:Fair Use of Napster on Ask Metallica About Napster · · Score: 1

    I have to disagree in this case. When you put an MP3 on the web your putting it out there to be downloaded and to make something copywrited(in this case anyway) free. It's just like taking burnt copies of the CD out on the street and selling them for your own profit. When your using Napster your WILLINGLY putting copywrited stuff on the net for free and that my friend is illegal. I also have to give Metallica and Dr. Dre a hand for accually doing something about the giving away of music on the internet. I believe Metallica is totally right. I went to Napster.com and read their terms of use and from what I got from it Metallica did not invade their privacy.

    This is a direct quote of Napster's terms of use:

    "Please note that any information or material sent to Napster, Inc. over this web site or otherwise will not be deemed to be confidential."

    So with that in their terms of use the users gave up any information that gave them away willingly

    It also says users are to follow all copywrite laws that apply

    "Users are responsible for complying with all applicable federal and state laws applicable to such content, including copyright laws"

    So by this they have been doing illegal actions and should be punished. Kids have to obey the laws too you know? People are trying to turn this all emotional to make Metallica the bad guy.

    Awww they were just poor little kids that didn't know what they were doing.

    Well they should learn what they are doing before they do it so it's their own fault and Metallica is totally in the right.
