I just love reading about these new technologies regarding bandwidth...
If you just sit back and think about it, it's so amazing. 3 years ago, a cable modem or adsl in your bedroom was unheard of almost...now people are running isp's from their house.
It isn't long before 56k modems are going to be obselete.

It's pitiful that you moderated this comment down.

I speak the truth and you know it. Hear my voice and embrace it. Rambus is not worth the silicon it's made of and I wouldnt put it in my computer.

...not to mention, RDRAM is not useful unless it's in a unix machine, windows would rip RDRAM to shreds and render it useless.

  7. DoubleClick = cookie whore on Cookiegate Explained · · Score: 3

Double Click, aka "Cookie Monster", is infamous for getting into trouble with placing cookies in their banners. Intuit is being sued by users of its Quicken.com website right now because people clicked banners on their website placed by Double Click and this lead to personal data, "including tax preparation and bill paying tools" were sold to third parties. More info on that lawsuit here.

Cookies can, and often do, store very personal information and can be a breach of security in some cases, but they're not all evil. For the casual browser, cookies can be useful to say the least.

I know for sure though, I don't want to be caught on Double Click's bad side. (1 2 3)

  8. Internet Law on Internet Law Journal Launched · · Score: 2

Something like this has been needed for quite some time now. The subject of internet laws is to most people uninteresting and boring, I actually found some of the laws in The Internet Law Journal quite interesting, so not many people know what is ok and what isn't.

There is a another topic here on /. posted yesterday about a man's company being audited and getting a hell of a beating (http://slashdot.org /article.pl>?sid=00/06/21/228218&mode=thread), and he, or his company, could have avoided all the hassle if they just knew the law's before they started their business.

I hope more people find this Internet Law Joinal and avoid a mess of trouble.

  9. Public view on Metallica. on At Last And At Length: Lars Speaks · · Score: 1

I've been a huge Metallica fan for ages, and when I heard about this lawsuit, I had a feeling that this was going to be a massive mistake on their part. They were just starting to get past all the taunting and whatnot from the conformist masses who say they "sold out" because they don't sound the same as they did 10 years before, and now they go and jump back into the public eye with something that's as controversial as suing a company, beloved to millions.

People should keep an open mind and be willing to listen to both sides, and reading the previous /. posts, I must say that I am quite impressed by the opinions of my fellow /.ers. A surprising majority of the posts concerning Metallica vs. Napster has supported Metallica to some degree.

I sometimes start a conversation about this on IRC and just observe everyone, and I can tell who really knows what they're talking about, and who should just shut up, namely the people calling Metallica 'faggots' or 'assholes' because they think Metallica is going to shut down Napster, because they're just listening to the masses without actually thinking through what Metallica thought when they decided to follow through with this. It's too bad people will judge something that they have no understanding about.

I listen to Metallica because I enjoy the music and I'll listen loyally until I don't like it anymore, not because they sue a company online.
