  1. Programmable remote controls on New Graphic Displays for the Blind · · Score: 0

    Finally!

I've been annoyed with the programmable remote controls for some time now - that you have to look at them just to find the buttons. Put a screen like this in the wee devices and you're set. Tacit feedback - no more looking at the remote to find a button you already know where it is.

  2. Think: Software Product Line on On Getting Management Interested in Improving Quality? · · Score: 0

I've been researching in Software Product Lines for three+ years by now, and all research I've read, and all research I've done myself says that re-use is beneficial for quality, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The problem you are facing could be that your re-use isn't structured enough, and that you need a solid base upon which to build the customer-specific parts.

Many companies, at least in Europe, spend lots of money to initiate a product line approach to their software development (including and possibly in particular web development companies). If your company already have this in place (intentionally or by ad-hoc), then rejoice in this and see the opportunities to create new applications faster and better (i.e. with higher quality).

  3. Blame Canada! on U.S. East Coast Bombarded By ... What? · · Score: 1

"At about 6:30 EST this evening, many meteors broke apart and headed south coming from Canada" That's it then: Blame Canada!

  4. Make it a parody or satire on Killustrator Author Required to Pay Two Grand · · Score: 1

As far as I've understood of the legal system in most countries, satires and parodies are considered "fair use" (if that's the term).

So: Make KIllu into a parody of A-Illu, mock them in the opening credits or something.

That should do the trick, shouldn't it?

  5. Swedish principles of availability to the public on More Threats From The MPAA · · Score: 1

Hmmm. Reading it into Swedish Parliamentary records is not a bad idea, actually. By swedish law, anything sent to a swedish govenment, be it a letter, an e-mail or whatnot, must be archived, and, unless the material is of a more delicate kind, be made available to the public. For instance, anyone have the right to read the cookie file on a civil servant's computer in Sweden. So, let's start sending e-mails with the DeCSS code to the swedish government. (BTW, they had troubles with this a few years ago, in a pedophile court case, since the video's were stored as evidence, and evidence is public material. Suddenly, every pedophile in Sweden requested copies of the evidence material from that case, and the government had no way of denying them the right to do so, nor denying them copies of the evidence material.)

  6. Ingres on Prior Art to Squash Database Patent? · · Score: 1

Well, I seem to recall us using the database Ingres as early as 1991. (It is now owned and developed by Computer Associates, I have no idea who owned it then). Add to that a Windows 4GW environment (also available at that time), and you've pretty much got your 3-tier environment... (Granted, application logic is somewhat embedded in the 4GW environment, unless you use stored procedures...)
