  1. Not particularly cancerous on Total Recall Weapon Scanner a Reality · · Score: 1

I recall reading about the design for this a while back. The claim is that it's a little less likely to cause cancer than 5 minutes outdoors. They were talking about using it in prisons to help catch smugglers. One of the arguments against it was that there is a pretty strong constitutional argument that forcing everyone to let you see them naked, and getting to keep a copy of their x-ray in your database, is a pretty major invasion of privacy.

  2. OSS is not a gift society on Commercial Open-Source Software · · Score: 1

"A potlatch is the behavoural equivalent of the peacock's tail: its completely useless to all concerned..."
OSS is not completely useless, the result is often very useful or even critical to the end user.
I also disagree that one can't trade respect in the OSS community for $$. How hard is it for RMS or Linus to find a job if they want one? You don't have to charge for your software to make money from it.

  4. finally connected on Free the Open Source · · Score: 1

It took a lot of tries, but i finally got through. Seems odd to attack the open-Source Movement as though it were a company. If you aren't happy with having more control of your system, or really want the ability to sue someone when it goes down, buy M$ products. Just don't complain when it isn't expandable in areas you need.
