Yeah but the pre-emt stuff has been around for a while and has had many happy users. ie: tested -- fairly stable. probably related to a don't fsck up and add a new VM at the end of a development cycle screw up.
After watching traffic about this almost every day for several months, I can say that I agree with this inclusion and hopefully some of the Low - Latency patches will make it in as well.
I dissagree, 2.2.x series was handled in a similar fashion as the 2.4.x is now. so one could really say that the lack of a development kernel to let the "kids" play with their new patches is what really hurt 2.4 so far. cause if you hadn't noticed, most of the changelog is BUGFIXES.
I just remembered... RTFM (or RTFL in this case) archives can be found on the web.
if you are running after a 2.5.1-pre3 then the bio changes are what's making most of the difference, better io scheduling and consistant buffer handling..
I have submitted patches to include into the kernel to him, and the responses I get back are more detailed than the ones he gave here. I think that his priorities are in sync with what he is responsible for. kernel-stability. not kernel-pr.
That is EXACTLY the problem with genetics we are talking about. Getting rid of what we think of as "stupid" is not always the answer. Guess what, christians think you are stupid too and they have a much more organised heirarchy. Not to sound like a long hair, (they do have some good points) but once genetic mutation is used to curb something that you personally do not like you increase the chance that something similar will be done to you..... Try to think before you speak next time, and maybee you won't sound so much like one of those "stupid christians" you are talking about.and yes I know my spelling is not perfect
This does look quite like a large piece of sensationalizm. altho, if I had caught a ring of spammers, I would probably sensationalize it as well. Spammers are the dregs of the internet society by any measurement. Even porn kings rate higher. If this is real then much applause is due. and yeah having your account used as the from: line really sucks. I worked for a major university for a while, and if any spam appeared from a domain, the entire university blocked the domain(s). and at some point after receiving a message from the "offender's" domain, the admin would either email from another acount, or call and complain. I think that out of this we should look at the implications of all the admins out there who do not use "due proccess" in deciding to ban domains for "improper email" and instead use the knee jerk reaction of O SH*T lock this out NOW. even if this story is all sensationalizm, the points of proper administration are valid.
Congradulations.

no go, they got smart to this a little while ago.

when 2.4.17 comes out the pagecache will be much improved. Not perfect, but much closer. That has been a major push for this release.
