In hindsight, I would recant the advice issue. It didnt help anything. But i stand by what I said about his attitude. 100%

Officials contacted at the ID say that the FCC informed them it was hazardous for small children, and that instances had been found where farm animals had been blown apart by "weapons unknown". Sources close to the animals suggest that rocket launchers, shotguns, and a strange gauntlet may have had something to do with the deaths.

Okay, I agree its not easy to get someone on the RBL. But what choice do you have when a major backbone provider like AboveNet is using RBL? I know they've either lifted it or the C Classes in general have been cleared, or some other such resolve, but I can hardly say "My ISP runs through AboveNet, Who use RBL, so I must get myself and all my friends off my (innocent) ISP because they use RBL." That makes me JUST as bad as the people who run RBL. I am censoring internet use. Maybe not to the same degree, but its the same thing. And I hardly think that if I email AboveNet and say "Hey, my friends and I use XYZCheap ISP, and we dont want RBL, so stop using it!". It just isnt going to happen. So what choice *do* I have when RBL blackholes 5 C Classes containing at LEAST one website I visit (peacefire.org) when they have done nothing wrong; because their hosting provider doesnt live up to the moral expectations of a group of third party vendors I quite honestly couldnt care less about? (Hey, I already get in excess of 50 spam emails a day... what difference delete all to 50 as to 100?)

But i havent heard that they're letting him take their IP to donate to an opensource project to do in software what they do in hardware. They may, however, do so, I guess. I would hesitate a guess that they wouldnt, though, and would hesitate a guess also that he would stay well away from any such project as much to *protect* that project from becoming subject to lawsuits based on patent infringement purely because he was involved.

    That's just my opinion though.

Its a real pain in the backside to upgrade to package x.y.z-abc2 because there is a bug in x.y.z-abc only to find out what you REALLY had was version x.y.z-abc_OBSD-PATCHED. Especially since x.y.z-abc2 hasnt been code audited, and could be subject to new security flaws. Theo and his guys do a FANTASTIC job auditing code, and deserve a lot of credit for it. After reading carefully the entire response, I get the renewed feeling that there are a lot of predjudices between the linux and BSD communities, perhaps more so than the microsoft and bsd communities. And it doesnt help when highly recognised people like Theo de Raadt answer questions with (paraphrased) 'If you're not clever enough already I dont want to teach you' creating feelings of inferiority.

In the answer to the first question Theo goes into detail about why software should be good, not just "good enough". However in answer to the 5th question "Kernel Design" he contradicts his own previous argument by saying "I dont think it makes any difference, as long as the system does what it is supposed to" ... to paraphrase "As long as it is good enough". Why?

Theo, throughout your responses, you have personally insulted the intelligence of the people who ask you questions. You have insulted the intelligence of the people who either use, pan to try, or know more than most of the dawdling masses about your distrobution. What I dont understand is why. If you could answer that, I would appreciate it. And if you could answer it without the typical belittling that is ever present throughout the answers to the questions asked before, I would appreciate it even more.

Now I have three DVDs (Seven, Face/Off and The Crow) from whatever zone Australia is, and if I buy more DVDs, they will be zoned for the USA. I effectively have no way to access the content on those DVDs. Making a device to get around the zone protection is illegal, as well is aquiring one. Using DeCSS to decrypt the movie to record it in MPEG would be illegal as well. Under the DMCA my only alternative is to buy ANOTHER DVD decoder card. ONE to play Australian zoned DVDs, ANOTHER to play american DVDs. Surely this constitutes a violation of the "Fair Use" clause in the constitution??

You'll also notice that your comment "People who are smart enough to realize and honest enough to admit that W2K is at least as stable as Linux and far more user friendly?
