I recall seeing an idea for alternative power (albeit in an automobile) through use of high speed gyros. Maybe some power could be stored and drawn in a dual-purpose gyro. BTW: my first response after reading the article was "Is this a hoax?" It doesn't seem to be, but yeah, seems pretty premature.
At this point, learning computers are a question of when, not if.
The first application that occured to me was of its potential power in some sort of 'universal translator'. If I understand correctly, one of the current problems with voice translation is that each voice/ pronunciation has to be calibrated to the database of terms.
Is this the end to that problem? Pretty soon the software will learn to understand variations in language. How close is Star Trek?
I really doubt Sony will let this flop. It seems reasonable that Sony will continue to match pricepoint to the market (as they have in the past). And don't forget the built in market of all those folks who already have PS games, controllers, etc and would now like a DVD player. And it just so happens its also the most powerful video game console on the (future) market. Now I'm just wondering about Dolphin...
