Read Charles Nuttall SciFi Terran Marine Corps series about the empire, or just check his website for interesting european slant....

  2. More Important on Dual Interface Mobile Devices To Address BYOD Issue · · Score: 0

How about adding hardware encryption so Google can't read your messages or contacts!

  3. Electronic Verification on Kaspersky Says Lack of Digital Voting Will Be Democracy's Downfall · · Score: 1

This won't work because we would need to verify that people are eligible to vote, and this discriminates against a huge segment of our population!

    Can someone explain the difference?

  4. Re:Cell phone companies to blame? on Mobile Phone Users Struggle With Hardware Adoption · · Score: 1

No, it's not the cell phone companies who are to blame, but the software designers. OUCH. Too close to home? Designers want to be cute, to be hip, to jump into the latest paradigm and the poor user is left to thrash about. Someone used Google as an example, but have you tried to navigate something on the sight you are unfamiliar with? I had set up a corporate email on Google for a couple of companies, and I had forgotten how to set up some feature (it was really, really late) so I tried to get âoeHELPâ to show me how. Simple question. Google wanted to show me a movie on how to set it up! I didnâ(TM)t want a movie! I wanted to scan a set of instructions for the part I wanted â" or discover the information wasnâ(TM)t there â" not see a movie! But designers get bored, and want to show off, and as usual, the user suffers.

Did you ever notice that there is no personal hygiene words of french origin! The first one that comes to ones mind is really of Italian origin and came out - not surprisingly - around the time the Italians invaded France. Look it up!

  6. WASP simulations on The War Of The Virtual Worlds · · Score: 1

Seeing some of the the results of current action in Iraq leads me to believe that WASPs are programming both sides of the simulations that the soldiers are traing with. Red Teams against Blue teams just seem to prepare us for civil wars fighting each other. That is the problem with fighting against guerrillas - they refuse to do what they are expected to do. We won the revolutionary war because we refused to fight the way we were expected (I don't know why we lapsed back into fighting in ranks in the civil war). Who is going to program a simulation where your sister straps on C4 and blows herself up in a crowded bus? Silly us. Until it becomes "old news" and "everyone is doing it", the WASP get really bent out of shape if you behave in a "crazy" manner. "Must'nt have you bringing your crazy ideas into our simulation..."

    Good luck

  9. Why Open Source? on Beta BeOS R5 OpenGL Benchmarks Smoke Linux and Win · · Score: 1

I'm new to Linux. I was attracted because I was tired of having to upgrade my OS every year to get functionality (or fixes) and then discovering applications that I had would no longer run. Worse yet, clients were forced into the same rut and lazy me had to rewrite my apps. I don't care so much about the price, but stability and continuity is important to me. When I worked for a big software company I saw the same requirements and concerns. Not everyone interested in Linux wants to bit twiddle. I don't work on my own car any more, but I sure as hell want to drive the same one for 10 years or want the guy down the street - who I trust - to fix it when it's broke. My car may not be the fastest, but it runs good and I can afford it and hey - I don't have to think about it in the middle of the night.

  10. Why Just Children? on Mattel Spyware · · Score: 1

Why do we protect only children? Why are the rest of us subject to spying? While I don't want anyone to take advantage of my children, I certianly don't want to give them permission to take advantage of me? Why is the default value "take advantage of anyone not specifically protected?"

  11. Re:No free lunch on Intel tells Harvard, 'Cover that Mac!' · · Score: 1

"SPONSOR" or "CONTRIBUTOR" but not ""OWNER". Neither one should mean that they have bought Harvard's soul. It means that they believe in the institution or the event and wish to contribute to the costs of it's operation. How much do they have to contribute to rename it "Intel U?" A long time ago Universities were islands of learning in seas of political turmoil. Now, with the New Commercialism, have universities indeed sold their souls? Is there a deeper menage to the fact that large corporations now call their property a "campus". I find the fact that Harvard rolled over for Intel a very disappointing thing. I guess they are in more financial trouble then I thought if they need to sell their soul.
