I think, with a little planning, we could organise a counter challenge. Naturally it would be called the SODOMI challenge. All we need to do is find out what it stands for.
For some time I have felt that software companies would greatly benefit from opening up some/most/all of their vastly outdated software titles. They aren't going to make any more money from them most likely so they have nothing to lose by making such things freely available (maybe even with the source) for die-hard fans to tinker with, port to other systems and see just how that final level should have been played.
This could only result in positive Public Relations and company image amoungst the old school (well I'm generalising here) community and would surely have a trickle down effect into other cultures and so forth.
I'm really surprised that this has not occured (to my knowledge... are there any places that do this?). How difficult could it be?
I take my laptop into the bathroom with me. And its handcuffed to me, so you just can't grab it.
Still wouldn't stop people from being able to "hack" it. Although that would cause damage to the data, so it may be better to aim the "hack" on the wrist section (using a machete or similar pointy implement).
Having done engineering for the past few years this site would have been so handy. Why is it that I've only been made aware of it now?! *cry*
On the other hand it still has the physics and other sections there (am meant to be learning about thermo right now..). Hopefully these sections won't get pulled as well (before I get a chance to read them at least).
/*insert anecdote about poor customer relations here*/
If there is a law against this I'd love to nail em for it -- not for any money, I just want my domain to be functional again.
Here in Australia we have a couple of government departments/agencies that will deal with this type of complaint.
The first is the State run (I think?) Fair Trading department where disgruntled patrons can lodge notices of unfair trading or lack thereof. The other is the federal run Australian Consumer and Compeition Commision (ACCC) that deals with companies trading illegally and so forth.
With the number of stories that surface about the NSI on here and other places if this were a company in Austrlia there'd be hell to pay.
Mini Programmers save space and hardware. They feed off the dust inside VCRs and TVs. Unfortunately the heat eventually makes them pass out. Which is why electronics stop working for no reason and then start back up again after you shake them, you just woke him back up.
So you mean all this time I've been programming a programmer? Is that the reason we could never get our VCRs to record the right shows? Some little bastard(ette) is sitting in there doing it on purpose for their own amusement?
From now on I am just going to threaten to take away the jolt bottle from my VCR.
How come these stories are only posted (here and elsewhere) once the patent has actually been granted? Surely it would be more benificial to report on these when they are still in the pending stage?
Rather than whinging about it too late we should be shouting prior art and wotnot before they get as far as being granted the patent.
Microsoft Island. Full of fun and fantasy for all! Enter into the realm of the bizarre and unreal as fact becomes fiction.
Alternatively I suggest MS just got and buy a group of islands somewhere and turn from corporation into a minor dictatorship. A land where marketers roam wild and free, occasionally attempting to pass themselves off as lawyers or tech gurus.

Yes, we've all (I like generalising) this happening now and then (and understating). Why not introduce a section for FollowUps? Then people could have a little slashbox(TM || Patent Pending) sitting on the side of their screen rather than possibly redundant stories filling up the middle of the page.
Actually, it may become too empty. Scrap this idea.
Any suggestions? :)

My bad.

The way I see it, why not start the first scrap metal yard on the moon?
There's definatly a niche market for all that floating debris/hardware somewhere. Even if it is only in some sci-fi movie with big breasted aliens.
