I only wanted to say that having learned R and Latex just for doing my PhD thesis (I am a PM now and I have never used them since my dissertation), I would strongly recommend them, especially to those never planning on going back to academia...it's once in a lifetime opportunity to do beautiful AND useful coding, feel proud of it and being able to brag to non geeks/nerds. All at the same time. Just priceless.....
PS: my PhD had nothing to do with CS by the way.
