You've got to be kidding 'Corporations *created* popular culture'? Coporations hype and exploit popular culture. And they do so with one purpose in mind. To make a buck. (which is not wrong in and of itself IMHO). The problem with Crops is that many times they don't care how they make that buck. Bottom line baby.
In mathematics priori is always argured over and rightly so. Due credit is and should always be rightly given. People need access to the 'real Mccoy' Ideas and expressions are easily mis-interpreted. As to ownership, it is riduculous to say anyone owns it. I know that a fired cannon will follow a parabolic course. I will use this formula, that was taught to me, in high school. And if someone should say to me 'I own that idea and you can not use it', then I know where to point the cannon at to verify the the acuracy of my, ahh the formula.
'Ie is only as integrated as other code uses it.' Do you regard controlling your hardware the same way? Do I have options for disk formats? Do I have only the options of using GDI, Direct X, OpenGL(too good to be abandoned by Microsoft)when accessing Video. What is best for the consumer is options and in the OS it must deal strickly with functions that deal with the Hardware.
