That poor Sr developer is now going to have to learn the technology, 'carry' the newbie through the entire development process, fix all the newbies mistakes, live with his mistakes for rest of his tenure at that company, and still make 30% less. Sucks for him.
The specific technology makes no difference, a good seasoned developer always excels, and a newbie is always a newbie. Of course I've know a lot of crappy senior developers in my time too, so maybe he deserves it;)
