I don't begrudge anyone the right to be a "radical materialist athiest." Whatever gets you throught the night is okay with me. But I note that in that intentionally long description of the poster's mindset I see nothing about ethics, morality or spirituality. If one is such a materialist athiest, why do Jon's rantings bother one so? I would think that one would just dismiss them out of hand as those of a backwards, quasi-luddite who just doesn't "get it."
Perhaps what bothers these people so much is that they aren't really comfortable being "matieralist atheists" (btw, I'm just using the previous poster's example as a straw man) after all.
The 'Net and OSS IS causing an economic and social revolution. Whatever form the social and economic order takes in the next few years, it will certainly not be that of a "radical materialism." All revolutions need some spirituality and moral navel-gazing to inspire and inflame both the revolutionaries and the ancien regieme. Jon may not be our Tallyrand or Paine, but he'll do for now.
The poor Russians, whose political history has been one fucking tragicomic revolution after another have always realized the essential element of a "culture of revolution." They have a traditional insult that applies here. "Nekulturny," uncultured.
