In my last job I had to debug a large program written in VBA (Yeech) by a german colleague.
He had never coded anything before, so there was no indentation, commenting, or even standard use of functions... Also, most of his variables were named using German words. Most of them were easy to figure out, but there were some that actually made no sense, even to the german-speakers I asked to help translate them....
This story seems to believe that encryption is the answer to all your privacy problems. If you have been following the progress of the RIP bill you will know that failure to hand over your encryption key leaves you in the position that you must prove you NEVER KNEW IT. Seeing as this is probably impossible, you will face the mandatory jail sentence or up to two years. Very draconian.
Does anyone have any comments on the security of services like hushmail?
