http://www.sharma-home.net/software/vote/vote.html A completely anonymous voting system that works with Firefox. I called it reader rated web pages. I have a primitive server side implementation that does basic stuff. But a lot of improvements are possible. It's got similarities to PageRank, but is more democratic because even people who don't author web pages get a vote. If only someone could tell me some ideas to get a million people download this extension :)
You can get binaries of the ports system from many FreeBSD mirror sites. Because of the centralized "base" system, there is a larger probability that an arbitrary port that you download works out of the box, than a RPM. Also, backward compatibility is taken a bit more seriously in the BSD world.
A new promising entrant into the world of Free JVMs: http://www.intel.com/research/mrl/orp/
The article, equates open source with Linux and fails to mention BSDs, especially, in light of the arguments presented by Wind River Systems, the largest player in that market.
Do you have a pointer to his views on GPL ?
The Docbook DTD and the associated DSSSL which are being extensively used in the open source community still use gif as the default format.
