The reasons Java is good go hand in hand with the reasons it is bad. They're all noted above (especially the negatives). You can't have your cake and eat it too. What Java loses in performance it more than makes up in other areas and it is still improving. Is a performance advantage of even 10% really that significant when you take into account the exponential rate in which hardware is improving?
