We recently started providing wireless service (I work for an ISP) and we are using an "open" band as well because the fees to pin down a band of your own get quite high. Depending on how many people really want the service, we plan on licensing a frequency...
But in answer to this, we have also had problems with the cordless phones breaking up transmission. My brother's company had tons of problems with it, so they simply brought in a T1 and dropped the wireless completely.
*lol* My question is how do you pull over for those kids that always have to go to the bathroom every few miles? No, seriously. It's amazing what we can do with technology, but let's hope that we can properly use this for the good of humanity. Mankind has this knack for taking good things and making a "whoops".
As a newbie in the design business, it's great to hear about how others cope with the problems of designing for high-speed web people as well as low-speed lemmings that aren't even sure what a "right-click" is... Now if I can only convince my boss about some of these points...
