I don't recall Rousseau stopping by and asking me to sign anything. "... we trade freedoms for security." Where did this "we" shit come from? Why do people talk about "society" as if it was a solid, tangible, independant creature? It's an abstraction; you can't ascribe beliefs, purposes, values to it.
"fat, rich, white guys..." I take it this is meant to be pejorative (judging from the tone of the article). What is significant about being white? Or fat, or rich, for that matter? Do all fat, rich, white guys have a set of essential, invariant qualities re the music business? Would poor, skinny, Asian/Black/Whatever guys make better record execs?
I'm a vegetarian. I don't want to get into a debate about animal rights, etc., but taking a stand for free speech by roasting animals seems, well, dopey.
Speaking of which, I just tried to download the GPL'ed chapters, and not one of the links worked. Nothing but "Page Not Found" errors. Very disappointing. Is it me, or are there a greater number of annoying little things like this in OSS that would raise screams if done by, say, Microsoft, but are blithly overlooked when done in the name of OSS?
True, you can't model what you don't know, but that's why even animal testing doen't model animal testing. Testing a (rat|pig|dog) to learn about humans is subject to many of the same flaws as computer simulations. Unless you know the exact and complete diferences among the animals involved, you're doing a lot of guesing.
There is no point arguing for a law if it will never get voted in or be enforced.
Well, this seems to be a vote for pragmatism over ideals.
My concern is that, while this spectrum will be *technically* no longer required, the current corporate owners will insist on their claim to it, and it will simply be used for additional corporate business.

Holy shit. Can't we just kill pomo analysis and the cult of irony once and for all? James

Well, I like to take the promo shirts and simply write "sucks" on it myself, using acrylic paint.
Works very nicely.
