Although I don't necessarily believe that banning spam would take away someones right to free speech. It has been upheld in court that thee is a difference between free speech and mail. You can have all the KKK literature you want but mailing it people can be prosecuted as a hate crime if the recipient of the UNWANTED mail perceives it as such.

"I can't see America translating Instant Messaging into a part of thier communication culture" Really? I can, I know several companies where ICQ is on all of the desktops and people use it to communicate desk to desk. I know once I got DSL my ICQ is active all the time...it is better than my pager when I am home..I can hear the little uh-oh through the house and I don't have to carry anything.

I also get my DSL directly from a telco and I have had only one at all negative experience and it was funnier than negative. I was not getting the speed that I expected when downloading so I called the customer service #. I explained my problem to the frontline woman and was told "I don't think we support that" I asked what she meant and she enlightened me that she was indeed talking about downloading. Fortunately, she passed me to the second tier service guy and he was wonderful!!

okay so if I am playing tennis and they are mowing the grass nearby and my ball rolls into the mown grass, i must stop my game or be sued? I think enforcement might be an issue. Not to mention this becomes a bigger issue...day Pizza Fred trademarks the smell of baking pizza...does that mean that no one can bake pizza? or kust that no one can put the smell of baking pizza into a can?
