Opera Software employs about 100 persons, mostly coding, but also some people in sales/admin. At least that's what I remember from Tetzchner(CEO) presentation here at my university.
I am using a WAP e-mail service from edge.no(Norwegian), and it works very well. Both sending and reading e-mail from any POP, or IMAP account.
E-mail notification can be done with a simpel.procmail script, by sending a copy of the e-mail (with spam control) to the "e-mail to SMS gateway" at your phone company. It usually work well.
Ohhhh! you americans don't have GSM, or SMS, or WAP, well anyway.....to bad.
Analog is a nice loganalyzer, and fills all of my requirements, but a 100% accurate flow analysis of usage patterns, is not possible. Since HTTP is a stateless protocol, it will be difficult to exactly know what the client is doing.
It depends on what you mean by "web-based email service". With an SSH enabled server, and the MindTerm applet, you will be able to do your e-mail in a web-browser from anywhere in the world.
It dependes on what port is beeing scanned. Port 80 is like "I would like some HTTP content? Can I", but a port like the one's used by Netbus and the like is like walking around a house and see if there are any windows open.
Pascal/Delphi is good and nice to beginners. PHP is also nice and has easy syntax. You can even try Matlab, which is VERY friendly towards the programmer.
Of course it is not programming but learning HTML could also be a good first step. Don't try OO, functions and prosedures will be just fine.

Let's not forget the amazing game Flight Unlimited. It was really cutting-edge when it got out, but it did lack some playability tough.
This will be a great loss to all flightsim fans.

Andover is actually supporting the PAN newsreader, because the RIAA don't like the ability to decode files from newsgroups ;-)
