Ok, about 6 months ago there were apple rumors flying at slashdot that came from MOSR and Ryan Meader. I remember reading the forum here and finding the reply of one of MOSR's former employees. He clearly stated that Most of what appears on MOSR is completely false and non-substantiated by anyone from apple. Since Steve Jobs has taken apple over he's really put a lid on the rumor mill. I don't read MOSR anymore. They're a pile of crap with no connections with apple. They continually make up "news" to get hits on their website. The only real news that can be found is when apple has a press release...And then MOSR updates so late in the day that 10 other mac websites already covered it. MOSR is a waste of bandwidth.
USB 2.0 isn't due for another year at least

well i've done my share of reading on both topics, and usb 2 isn't even due for another year...and that's from intel who always delivers it's products on time (cough) firewire is standard on all compaq's and apple machines now (as much as i think compaq really sucks it does have firewire) in general firewire has much more potential than USB 2.0 and it's actually here now..instead of a year (cough)
It isn't gonna happen, as much as people _really_ think jobs is some underhanded dealer with apple, he enjoys being at apple, just look at him at Macworld and WWDC. It's just another attempt by ZD to bash apple. I really dislike ZD and i wish they would get a life and leave apple out of the rumor game. as of late _nothing_ gets out of apple because of Steve Jobs, no rumors nothing, so take this "rumor" very lightly
Just for grins and giggles lets go back in time. I seem to remember a certain MacOS X that beat a certain NT in a lot of network performance tests...right at one of the Big MacWorld ToDo's with Steve Jobs. Oh yea...OS X runs on top of BSD 4.4...oh yea it runs apache too.....it's all very similar to flavors of Unix and NeXTStep, yea i can almost trust those benchmarks from mindcraft
Let's not forget the MacOS (i do agree the MacOS prior to X really sucks so don't flame me for that) OS X takes a huge step in the right direction (Open source) and it's fast as hell i run it, it's stable and i'm impressed on a large scale with it (yay a shell) Never take MS's word on anything they are just retarded
If everybody really wants to know why there aren't CS graduates, it's because our "wonderful" universities have really upped the requirements for CS majors, obviously there are a lot of people that enroll but everyone changes to BCS even if they would make wonderful software engineers. Theoretical math is for smart people. I'm not smart, i can just program. and i make code go extremely fast. My job as a software engineer is to take an algorithm of a smart person (math guy) and make it go into my program, i just need to know enough math to do that. I don't personally need all of the theoretical math like "all unicorns are pink" and prove it, university requirements are way out of hand, someone needs to step in and say "hey we can be terrible at math, because i AM a good programmer"
i'm sure it was john Carmack's intention to make thousands of crazy teen's go out with assorted weapons and kill other kids. I'm sure that was his intention. Everyone always wants to blame somebody else for there fuckup. John Carmack is a great human being....he brought us doom and quake...and is making OpenGL and industry standard for 3d graphics (not directx). What can i say...he's John Carmack, leave him alone
Just because they've "split up" doesn't mean they don't talk to one another and still make everything so goddamn proprietary. it doesn't change a thing, it's still the same as before, i simply think a ban on windows would solve the problem:), i only wish it could become a reality, in the meantime, MacOS X and Linux have to do
Everyone bitches when they don't have open source, and then everyone bitches when they do have open source. apple took a step in the proper direction. give them a break they are moving in the right direction

Apple is doing something right in going open source. why the hell are people bitching and complaining about the little things, they are doing something right with a great operating system, i mean even John Carmack likes it, he loved NeXT Step (it's how we got wolf3d/doom/quake) and it's mostly from NeXTStep, give apple a break, they have great hardware, a unix like environment in OS X, and OpenGL support. they are doing something right under the direction of Steve Jobs. These people need to get off their apple hating horses and accept that they are doing something right and endorse it rather than just tear it apart
This is great for linux, it's almost like Microsoft is starting to crack a little bit, they are losing the OS war which is great for the common User. The reason they released office98 for the mac is because they don't compete for an OS on that specific hardware, this is the beginning of admitting defeat to linux
If you go to the fcc's website it doesn't suck as much as you first think. The suckiness begins if you dial more than 7 digits to access your isp. So this means all local isp's are unaffected, so if you dial a local isp (7 digit dialing) they cannot assess long distance charges, it states it right in the press release, so at least i can still have my cheap internet access yay

Try yellowdog linux, it's "commercial" but it's only $24.95 or something cheap like that
Synapse is a prospective 3D UI i checked the page (www.oreality.com) and it's available...the screenshots are pretty neat
800 mbps Firewire, i don't see usb 2.0 doing anything fast, apple did it right with SCSI and apple's doing it right with firewire, need i say more
