Cheddar cheese need not be dull. Far from it. The makers of the real thing have to call it "West Country Farmhouse Cheddar" if they want protection, and even then the marketing people for the factory-produced stuff still resort to trickery like "Farmhouse West Country Cheddar" to fool the gullible.
The Real Thing is sharp and tangy and has been made in truckles and matured in a cheese cloth so it has a distinct rind which is in itself a tasty treat. The very best Cheddar is made by Montgomery's on North Cadbury, Somerset. Once tried it will never be confused with anonymous slabs from the supermarket.
