dontcha know that cheap broadband aint for Americans? Only commie countries have cheap broadband! Otherwise, how are the megacorporations media empires gonna keep their god given monopolies. Now git back to Russia, you commienists!
IANAL, but AFAIK, no one has ever been sued for just downloading. I do not think they can sue you for just downloading. THey are suing for sharing files. But the media and RIAA/MPAA cooperate to make it sound like it was downloading. Well, OK, they lie. But what it is is either she was sharing a file over kazaa, and the RIAA searched for and find it and got her IP, or she downloaded a file from bittorrent, which supposedly automatically shares the file as you downloading it. RIAA/MPAA is supposedly getting the IP from the tracking software which tells you which IP are downloading/sharing. Then they can sue you that way.
But the media likes to call it downloading, when it is really uploading. THat dang liberal media. When the revolution comes, we need them all dangling from a rope, right?
They are squealing like little piglets by this devastatingly truthful article.
These so-called "libertarians" are nothing more than sheeple in love with social hierarchies. Most of them are no doubt obsessed with their own IQ scores and masturbate to a photo of Ayn Rand on an hourly basis.
Oh, fear not, little hierarchy-lovers, you will be rich someday. Someday soon, we will all fall at your feet to grovel thereupon. Someday, someday, someday....
So many of you here are saying it will be just 1000s of public access TV low-quality shows. But the fact is that the people who are interested in making this sort of content for public access and for videoblogs and such, have all been DOING IT BY THEMSELVES (or with a couple of friends). But the real potential disruptive force in all this is the POWER OF WIDESPREAD COLLABORATION using them there "Internets".
The real problem is the scripts for these public access failures. But when amateur content creators really start adopting the open source software creation model, where hundreds of content creators start using internet software to collaborate and create scripts, find public domain and creative commons video footage, and using cheap digital cameras to film events and interviews from all over world, and then divide up the work a la open source software, edit the video using hundreds of different computers using cheap or even free editing software, then, THEN it blow even Hollwood out of the water.
And the main thing that this copylefted content will offer is something that the TV industry is in REALLY short supply of--a more real worldview and a wider range of philosophical and sociopolitical viewpoints. For example, every friggin day on TV you see celebrities, politicians and other famous people being treated with kid gloves, like the alpha animals they are. But on internet tv, they are gonna get trashed. And people are gonna like that.
you wrote: Just as only a small percentage can write effectively, an even smaller percentage can present video effectively. Writing requires storytelling skills. Video requires storytelling, as well as camera skills.
Don't I know it! Actually, script writing is the same writing/analysis skill as any good writing, blogging, etc.
I myself am working on a video documentary right now. And the script is a bitch. I see other amateur leftwing documentaries parked on various places on the net, and almost all of them are jokes--because of weak or nonexistent scripts.
"Home movies" have been around for decades. Have you ever watched someone elses without cringing? I don't care what you call it...videoblogging, PhoneCamVideo, MyVideoLife...its still a home movie, and almost always crap. Unless there is a lot of taut skin involved. Or something very, very humorous (and probably degrading to the subject)
But the thing is that a good script can be written collaboratively. And passed around over the Net. THe video filler itself can be passed around to different editing PCs over the net. And there is a vast army of leftist bloggers on the net that can be organized to create copylefted video documentaries. And once a good documentary is written and edited using creative commons video and flash animation, it can be copylefted and set free on the p2p networks, where it could live forever in a near-future America where most Americans have broadband, and where PCs have video cards to output to the digital tv, and where apps have developed to search for and download video automatically.
Notice how the poll questions are essentially asking the poll respondents about PRIVACY issues (bloggers spilling PERSONAL data online about politicians, judges, and celebrities). But this article is trying to sell those results as evidence that the public supports cracking down on political blogs using campaign finance laws.
You have here a first rate example of the economic elite using mass media propaganda.
They have been doing this for over 100 years here in America.
really only a fairly small percent of humans are actually any good at writing and reading, or at least good enough to make it enjoyable for them. We are talking maybe 10-30%. Then only some fraction of those are skilled enough at the computer to be able to deal with blogs.
So what is going on with the political blogs thing is people trying to percolate ideas up into the sphere of journalism and media. Some of blogger ideas and writings do make it into the mainstream, at least if they are business-friendly enough (for the most part).
But when broadband gets cheap enough, and gets seperated from cable and phone line enough so that a majority of Americans just have a data line, then people will probably start feeding streaming video (or auto-downloaded video) into their digital TV sets from the Net. That is when videoblogging will really start to allow the bloggers an avenue into the minds of the masses of Americans. THat is when the real education can start to take place.
As for the rest of your politically correct() routine, skip it. I ain't white. That threw a wrench into your little program, didn't it? Throw an exception?
Get back to me when you have read a few hundred books, and maybe we can talk then....
take a look at this photo of the eastern australian aborignes (now wiped out). They were descendants of the Murrayian aborignes. Some say they were part homo erectus. You can still see some aspects of the murrayians in some aborgines today. They may have mixed with erectus on the way down to Australia.
BTW, most aborigines has visual cortexes that are 25% larger than other humans.

Just as prehistoric hunters, pastoral peoples and farmers domesticated cattle and sheep and dogs, etc., so too has the economic elite (through TV, primarily) domesticated a certain breed of homo sapiens. Just as those humans of long ago bred their domesticated animals generation after generation for certain desirable characteristics, so too has the economic elite produced us Americans by altering our culture.
