My two favorite science heroes are Norman Borlaug and Maurice Hilleman.
Borlaug lead the research that developed variations of wheat that led
to the Green Revolution in Mexico and India. Hilleman lead the research
teams that developed 8 of the 14 primary vaccinations given to children
to prevent childhood diseases. Each of these research scientists are
responsible for millions of people being alive today who otherwise wouldn't
be. They averted untold suffering and heartache. We too often remember
those who cause pain and suffering in the world; why can't we also revere
those who prevent it?
