  1. What are the odds of this SSSCA on Senator Hollings and the SSSCA · · Score: 1

I have to admit I have never heard about this SSSCA thing before.

It sounds like a "Only in America" story - what do you americans think, does something like this have a realistic change of going through? And if something like that goes through, is there any reason to stay in that country any more.

  2. Where's the phone...erm, news? on A Stateless IP Phone In The Works From AT&T · · Score: 1

Seems to be like a dumb consoled packed in a fancy phone looking box. There's nothing wrong with that but haven't we had this boxed in many flavours, for decades.

Wait a minute...! Maybe I could put my laptop inside my old blackandwhite TV, replace the display with the TFT screen and call it a Digital TV with a broandband IP connection!

  3. WAP is not WML on WAP Bashing · · Score: 1

It's just amazing to see even technically oriented people making just immensily moronic comments about WAP being dead because "they look bad and work slowly".

Are they braindead? Haven't they noticed that the WAP standard is a large stack of specifications - from low and multiple transport level specifications to the presentation layer. Most people seem to be blurred and think that WAP == WML. The presentation layer is just a tiny piece of the big picture.

So, the presentation layer was not that fancy - so what? Were you around when there was gopher and Mosaic came - was it fancy? (In my opinion yes). So it sucks, now it has been fixed.

Alright. The first ugly presentation layer might have given WAP bad credit, but wait a while and see....you can do a whole bunch of Amazon stuff with it.

  4. Bad signal on Red Hat Reports (tiny) Loss, Revenue Slip · · Score: 1

As RedHat might be considered by many people (and especially those not currently using Linux) as the flagship of the distributions this is really bad news.

I am afraid that news like this makes it harder for businesses to adopt Linux. It makes a huge difference to know that your operating system vendor is still in business after 1,2,5 and 10 years.

So, I just sincerely hope Redhat, SuSE and the others get their business going well and start making nice profits.
