  1. Knead uh Pruffreeder? on The Emperor's New Groove · · Score: 1

Someone else pointed out some horrendous spelling mistakes in this article, and I have to wonder what's happening in our American school system when its graduates can't distinguish between homograms in their proper context. But the worst mistake here is:

"Lama" is completely and utterly wrong. It's spelled "LLama" (two ells, dammit!), and is properly pronounced by Andeans as "Lyama", not "Lama" like in the Tibetin monks. Between Americans not being able to spell and their electing Bush as President, things are gonna (sic) get just worse!

"I realize that Modula-2 is a great teaching languge, but c'mon -- how many commercial-grade
microkernels out there are written in Modula-2?"

What the hell's wrong with Modula-2?! It's a fine language, combining the best of C and Pascal.

It ain't microkernel, but it was commercial grade: Nicholas Wirth wrote the OS and all of its utilities with Modula-2: the Lilith System. Even had its own windowing system...

Actually, that's a trick that Microsoft themselves often suggested. Windows 3.1 could only address up to 16 megs, so any ram above that was being wasted. Therefore, the idea arose to use those wasted ram megs by making them ram disks, both to load the temp directories (\temp and \tmp), and even the temp swap file, if possible. It sped up Win3.1 enormously, and even made it a bit more stable. Ram disks certainly made MSWord 6 run a shitload faster...

"I for one am quite sick of having a bloated OS like linux on my HD. It's getting to the stage with GNU/linux/X that I am reminded how bloated windows was when I used to use it. Full Mandrake 7 install - 1.5Gb. Minimal - 250Mb. That story of putting linux on a floppy is bull**it."

Then don't be such a dumbass and get yourself a distro that *discourages* bloat:<http://www.slackware.com>. A reasonable non-X install with no kernel sources can be done in less then 50megs. Mandrake is installing not just the kitchen sink, but most of the plumbing in the bathroom and down to the sewer main. You don't -need- all that.
And a decent Linux install can be done to disk, it's been done, many times.
