I complain to the ISP's as well, but since the worst the ISP's can do is cancel his account, it simply doesn't discourage them. The number of free ISP's/Email addresses is infinite. But if I have the page they are advertising taken down? Well, that's much more inconvenient for them. Especially if it's a small business starting it's first foray into the world of spamming. Any work they've done on submitting their site to search engines, business cards, etc, all has to be re-done. It's a much more effective way of stopping the spam than getting a spammingfscker@hotmail.com email pulled, that doesn't hurt them at all.

FSCKING eBay. One one NG I'm a regular on we get tons and tons of people advertising their eBay auctions, even though sales and auctions are expressly disallowed by the charter and FAQ("No Sales/Auctions here" is in the freaking _subject_ line of the FAQ posts)_AND_ we've created at least 5 other groups which were chartered for those specific activities. But when we try to wield our LARTs against these Lusers, eBay sends us a little note saying "we are not responsible for the online behavior of our members"

So people who slow down their business and disrupt their community get _Federal_ action taken against them, but their users who interfere with other online communities get their protection.

Fsckers. I hope this guy gives them hell.

  4. Who left the lid off Signal 11's ass? (Re:Crypto) on What Kind Of Logs Should ISPs Keep? · · Score: 1
The CIA and NSA are well versed in recovering data after they were burned. Infact, this is how we have emoticons/smileys now - originally they were used as a code. But they killed the professor that created them, sealed the documents in magnesium binders, burned it, and then threw it in the ocean. Unfortunately some enterprising university kids got wind of this, went off-shore, recovered it, and reconstructed most of the data. This was AFTER a government agency burnt it to a crisp. So the idea of "using a printer" to secure your logs is one of the stupidest ways to do it - both in terms of space, and in terms of security.

Somebody put the lid back on please. I don't think we can survive such an overload of BS.

I learned to type on an old typewriter like that one. I'm not sure when it was made, but we called it the Old Grey Mare(she ain't what she used to be). Gawd that thing was awful, but my mom wouldn't let us touch her IBM Selectric III typewriter.(sometimes we'd secretly use it when she wasn't around, but she'd always catch us because we'd do something dumb like forget to turn it off(never had to turn the Old Grey Mare off!) or forget to put the dust cover back on it just the way she did)
I bet she's still got that old piece of shit laying around the garage somewhere. Man my mom was a Nazi about that damn thing. If we jammed the keys or got them bent we'd get it. The worst thing was that she put stickers over all the letters and forced us to look at a chart of the keyboard layout like the one in the previous post so we wouldn't look at our fingers. It taught us to touch-type so I guess it wasn't all that bad.
The really scary thing? I'm going to change out our keyboard at home to Dvorak or another layout, and I'll probably white-out the keyboard so my wife and little ones have to learn to touch type too. I didn't know being a Nazi about your keyboard was heraditery.

Venture capital groups will be happy to finance me as long as I give them some lame story about "providing demographic information for advertising."
Actually I have no intentions for this information at all. I'll ping and traceroute people until they notice me and start discussing me on sites like SecurityFocus and Slashdot. I'll go public telling people that what we're doing with this data is secret and then I'll sit back and watch the speculation fly. Once someone comes up with a really good idea of what could be done with such information, I'll "accidentally" leak a little of my business plans, which will of course be that I intended to use this infomation like the good idea suggested, to the big businesses. HA! They'll buy me out immediately!

His record as Texas Govenor? Bah. He got the highest youth turnout in the past several years, but overall, the turnout of voters was the _lowest_ it's been in DECADES. Lt. Governor Rick Perry and the Railroad Comissioner hold much more power. They're the ones responsible for any growth in Texas.

My mother is a staunch Republican. My entire family is. My father was a Precinct Chairman for about 14 years and we all grew up conservative, but George W. Bush? Eww. I talked to my mom a little while back and she said "If Bush get's nominated I'll have to vote Democratic for the first time in my life(she's been an active voter for about 42 years). Do you honestly think that AOL Time Warner, Microsoft, Earthlink, etc. will actually start paying royalties to British Telecom for something as lame as hyperlinks?!? Hell no. They're huge companies with a large influence in the federal government, and if they all get hit with this, I have no doubt that the patent system will be changed.

Do you honestly think the patent system will be changed in a fair manner if the driving force behind it is Corporate Lobbying? Face it, if Time Warner, Micro$loth and AOhelL get their hands on the lawmakers and have a genuine reason to change patent law they'll do it with so many loopholes and catchphrases that they'll end up with even more dominance over the areas they have patents in.

I'm not sure this is the lesser of two evils.

I'm not even sure we can do anything about it, the vast majority of the public wouldn't even begin to understand, or even care about, the changes proposed by lobbyists. The Corporations would promote the changes with propaganda about "Don't let British Telecom pick your pockets. Vote YES on proposition 69."

But they won't mention article 17, subsection 42 which gives them the right to sue people like mad if they are even in appearance of violating "recognized" trademarks.
