Microsoft and their deputy general counsel always protect the franchise, the proprietary code, and the intellectual property of their company. That's their job. That's what they do. GDI and HTC must have known of the licensing issue before going into full android production.
What baffles me is why smart phone OEM's aren't using an open-source code to replace MS codes. Would it be too expensive and too time consuming for OEM's to bring the product to market if they had to out-source for source code?
I just watched part 1 of IBM's Watson computer play against two of Jeopardy's best players. Watson finished up round 1 tied with one player at $5K each. Some of the questions that Watson answered were extremely difficult. Watson was able to parse and comprehend answers that were not only lengthy but complicated as well. Despite a couple of Watson's misreads it's performance was extraordinary and IBM researchers deserve a lot of credit for their efforts.

Apple will undoubtedly find resistance from publishers, authors, and maybe even from consumers. It appears as though Apple is simply identifying itself as a primary distribution channel and charging a 30% distribution fee but I still don't understand how they can make any other requirements regarding the rights of developers and publishers.
