I have to agree with the DropBox recommendation. It works really well for for photos as they have a photo galley feature that allows you to share your photos online by just putting them in the right folder on your computer.
Their agent that runs on your computer does the uploading/downloading in the background so it is not something you ever have to think about (and it does that with some kind of acceleration).
