There will be many that will laugh at my suggestion, but take a look at FileMaker. You can interface with the database via PHP if necessary and also export to XML. You can script the database to print and email a PDF to customers or wherever it may need to go. I realize that you have a plethora of options besides FileMaker, just an idea
FAR cheaper than Cisco and not a self sustaining ecosystem like Cisco. (Cisco charges tech/company to learn, tech/company charges you for the device that you cannot configure, tech/compay charges you etc, it never ends cause you can't configure them) The reason that companies LOVE to sell Cisco gear is they will have someone on staff to configure it, and that is where they make their money. Not many people have the ability to configure Cisco routers, web interface on them or not. SO, if you purchase one, you will be forever paying when something needs to be changed or upgraded. The only people that buy Cisco gear anymore are those that are afraid to be responsible for their choice. As a consultant I have heard the speech several times, CIsco must be the best, its what everyone uses. Let those that truly understand their job be the ones to lead the way out of the world we live in where companies like Cisco get you from every end after the purchase. From a technical standpoint, they do have a good product that functions well, there is no reason for it to be so difficult to manage though. I do miss the days of Novell when a GUI was not on every computer, but thats not where the industry is now, everything has a GUI to configure it Yes, I can trudge my way through a Cisco, and yes it takes me much longer than someone who is a CCNA or just had training on a specific router. I can do it much faster in an interface like an Astaro. I also put in a vote for FreeBSD if Astaro is not an option for you.
If Apple starts doing what the RIAA and MPAA demand instead of meeting them half (or so) way like they currently do, I will bail for FreeBSD, Linux, etc. until they do the same. If everyone does it, I will stop using computers period.
I have NO respect for BABIES that make millions+/yr and whine about how their business (RIAA, Insurance compaines, North West Airlines, etc) has no money. They can give a bit back to the company and employees instead of layoffs...
I own my own business and practice what I preach... (This could go on forever, but I will stop now...)
Firewire controllers are like SCSI drives, they have their own controller onboard to handle all read/write requests. (Little or no management)
ATA on the otherhand requires your CPU to coordinate reads/writes, so that means that your system performance suffers.
Put a SCSI drive into a system, compare the overall performance and feel of the system to when it is booted off of an ATA device.
With an ATA drive your computer your computer will have slow screen updates, jerk, maybe even stop responding for a short period of time when there is moderate disk activity. (eg. playing MP3's or watching a movie, and loading an application).
Firewire would not cause this to happen unless the information could not be written to or read from the drive fast enough.
Considering that most hard drives can't do more than about 30 MB/sec sustained and your average drive (100-200 dollar price range) probably does less than that (I should have looked up some specs, but, no time) the firewire bus is faster than the drive, AND handles your read/write requests instead of the CPU. More CPU for your games, mp3 encoding, movies, etc...
They want to "prove" that TCP/IP is a bad/insecure protocol because they didn't invent it, maybe even the reason for all the "worm troubles" everyone is having.
They will steal some new technology that they will claim that they have "invented" and lobby for its acceptance for use in its place, but of course it will cost other manufacturers dearly to license the product.
I only hope that they same thing happens as with JScript and their "embrace and extend" tactic they tried with Java.
Correct me if I am wrong, but unless you are considered management, you need to be paid overtime after 40 hours... I live in MN, and know for a fact that here, you must be compensated for every hour worked. One of my past employers almost found out the hard way that in MN, if your company makes over 500,000 per year, then you fall under federal law, overtime after 40 hrs/weeek. If not, you must be paid overtime after 48hrs/week.

Given the current security "features" in Windows, the new shell scripting will just open another world to worm and virus writers.
I can see it now, just like javascript, all you will have to do is read the email/webpage and this will have system level access to your computer.
Sounds like I am gonna have a fun time at work in the future! (NOT!!)
The spelling correction alone is quite a feature, but also show them how to setup aliases and all the other cool tricks with it.
