It's well worth the $1/month. My login info is synchronized among not only all of my browsers but also all of my devices... the password generator built into it is very nice -- you give it the criteria (10 characters, numbers, letters, symbols) and it'll generate your password and fill in the form you're filling out, as well as save it.
I agree with you that things *should* be better but they are not and I haven't seen a better "band-aid" than LastPass.
