  1. shine on (hard times but we are up to it) on Generation Wrecked · · Score: 1

while its true these are hard times, and the situation will likely deteriorate more still. this generation is armed with information, communication and processing power far in advance of any before. The dot com boom was the abuse/misunderstanding of all this newly aquired power. Now this short dark age is our backlash, fear of our own abuse. A loss of confidence in our own creativity and certainly a bit of confusion as to what our real goals(dreams) are. Im sure we'll come back to find our dreams noble and our selfs capable. Then to build the sort of future we dream of but cynically doubt will ever exist... enough of that... FUD will build nothing, and nothing will come. lets just start building things and those so enlightened may start putting those things together... think of everything we build and share as a lego brick... haha.. ok back to work for me... you get it anyway

  3. Immersive 3D and Wearable on GUI Research - Is it Still Being Done? · · Score: 1

First off, immersive 3D environments do not need a powerfull SGI. A GeForce2 is can push quite a few texture mapped polygons...

I do think that much more research needs to go into wearable computer interfaces, such as an augmented vision interface which is to overlay reality, this may become common place much sooner then many people expect, but as of right now, there would be almost no software support.

  4. Mapping the human genome is one thing on Frankenstein Time · · Score: 1

but hacking it, and understanding how to usefully modify it is another. Anyone who has patched a binary file will respect the much more complex task of hacking the human genome. We are not yet to perfect babies, so calm down.

  5. People have to want to change on The Digital Revolution - Living up to the Hype? · · Score: 1

In order for the technological revolution to have the same kind of impact that the industrial revolution made, people will have to want to adapt, instead of people wanting the technology to seamlessly adapt to them(which literaly means, they dont want to change). People are hoping for things to just become easier, but in order to advance, they will have to become more sophisticated.

Of course most people will not adapt, and so the lower class will grow.

  6. How Many People Feel This Way? on The Leased Life? · · Score: 1

How many people feel as if they are living a leased life.
This cant simply be bitched about, something needs to be done, and it can. It you want to be a little more free, then you need to have options other then making or spending money. Sure you can still go to the park, but you should probably bring along your 1,400$ mountain bike.
I have felt this way for a long time, alot of people I know have too, I wonder if the problem here is mainly communication. People express it differently, some say its capitalism, others just label it chains holding them down, still more see it as a box built arround them, even others as consumerism. Whatever you call it, we need to have a poll, do you feel free? yes no let me check whats popular first
