  1. Large pipe? on BP Robot Seriously Hampers Oil Spill Containment · · Score: 1

Would using a slightly larger pipe to slide down over the existing stuff, then running it all the way to the surface for collection be of any benefit? It wouldn't even have to be sealed to the existing hardware, just rammed down into the sea floor. If it leaks as much as 20% you've still contained 80% of the flow.

Actually I find it to be the other way around, or perhaps both are equally true. Where it is written as "1.5 times" they infer "1.5 times more". This can be really aggravating for people in casinos (:

It should have been "1.5 times as much" or just "50% more", as you've stated. Maybe I just got my post into the wrong place?

Anyway, sorry to call you out when clearly your word maths are correct :D

50% more and 1.5 times are the same thing. Don't confuse 1.5 times with 1.5 times more. If it were equal it would be 1 times. And 50% more is 0.5 times more. Could also be represented as 150% of last year's value.

Most of our modern information delivery and socializing methods are actually pretty inventive and useful, until they are populated with the masses of morons that inhabit our Earth. And the one tweet the submitter linked to is a good example. It did actually have good information in it - Portugal scored a goal. But it was also filled with a bunch of personalized exclamation, which most people don't want to see.

The great thing is, you're not forced to view that person's Twitter feed. The hard part is finding one you ARE interested in.

Actually they probably get tossed around a bit, but the real key is that they don't install them in hurricane prone areas. Lots of research goes into placing them in areas that get consistent high winds but not gale force craziness.

One such train could provide housing for several hundred families with supplies and power that would last weeks. I don't even need credit - mostly I just want to see it happen because I think it would be cool.

You could then use the same type containers on ships to provide housing for areas that have recently been struck by typhoon or other such ocean based atrocity.
