The article only states that the wavelength can be modified easier. But will the "new fiber" have the ability to transmit over long(er) distances compared to the traditional ones?
And what do you do when your house burns to the ground with both your cheap virtual machine and BackupPC?
I'd say it would be quite nice to have yor data stored somewhere else in addition to your own private backup system.
With that said, of course it does not have to be Google or another multi national corporation storing the data for you. Find someone and pay them for it. Then sue them if they do something bad with your data:)
At least Google added that return policy to the apps in Android Market. Too bad they only give you 15 minutes so you won't be able to download the full app until it is too late to return it...
