  1. Re:Probably Not True on Kursk Destroyed By Cavitation Missles? · · Score: 1

I have to disagree. In the book Blind Man's Bluff mention is made of the USS Scorpion which sank in the Atlantic in 1968. Its been about a year since I read it so the exact details may not be correct, but further inquiries have determined that the USS Scorpion was sunk by its own torpedo. Nova also had a special on the USS Scorpion in an episode about submarine spying.

  2. Bravo Jon Katz on Open Media: Taking Old Fartism Down · · Score: 1

Its about time that some one recognizes the young generation and the impact on society that we have. Old Media has developed a stereotype about youth of today and its because the youth aren't allowed to participate in developing this media. We aren't a bunch of lazy, drunks who spend their lives like a character on the Real World. We are trying to shape our world and figure out our own place in it. If people would listen to youth with an open mind, they might actually understand us.

  3. Student Response on Is Technology Killing Leisure Time? · · Score: 1

I have to agree with Katz's view that "college students and their work hours, it seems they are also bound to their desks and dorms." With the increase in technology it seems that our generation is increasingly becoming the NOW generation. Everything has to be done, right now. Friends wonder why you don't answer your voice mail right away, email needs to be answered upon receipt. If we continue this trend of instant-responses we will become the working generation who does nothing but work.

  4. Say More With Less on Analysis: The Rise Of Open Media · · Score: 1

I think Katz could have summarized his article in a lot fewer words because his point is pretty simple.

People don't want to pay for their news any more than they want to pay for their internet service. The internet has provided users a way to gather a wealth of information and offers them the choice of what and who to listen to. Open Media is a success because it offers users a choice which closed Media does not. An example: The evening news. Not every one really wants to hear about British royalty or new ways to lose fat.

Open Media is a time-saver so the user can pick and chose the stories that he/she really wants to read about while the Old/Closed Media only offers the user a selection of news that the Media has chosen.
