Amex, Arkansas, bankruptcy? Eventually she noticed that my application was (say) David Ralph Smith and she was reading me Ralph Emmerson Smitz. It was right there in front of her. She not only told me his name but then said, wow, lucky thing it's not you, he's in a lot of trouble.
The Point? It's not the technology. You can't stop technological advances (DBs) but you can constrain the rights people have to act like morons.
