  1. We are Furby of Borg on Cold Fusion with Nanotech? · · Score: 1

Ah, yes. The Furby collective. Can you image a couple dozen of those little guys screeching "Cock-a-doodle-doo!" in unison?

  2. DJNews on The Science of Star Trek · · Score: 1

I did witness DejaNews' server give me the heave-ho yesterday. Reloading gave no errors and no problems thereafter. It kinda surprised me.

  3. Three syllables? on Feature:On the Subject of RMS · · Score: 1

I believe the slash is pronounced also.

  4. Take account of responses on Slashdot Moderation:Phase 1.1.1 · · Score: 1

I agree that I'd like to read the threaded responses to lower-scoring posts, but to up the score of parent posts doesn't seem quite right. Maybe posts threading to higher scoring posts should be visible regardless of score. Of course, this would most probably let a lot of crap leak though. That's a real pickle...

  5. An Idea! hmmm... on Slashdot Moderation:Phase 1.1.1 · · Score: 1

This seems unneccesary to me given that we can already filter stories by topic. Moderators are only needed for posts since they can't be pigeonholed as easily as the stories. At least that's how I see it.

  6. Popular Democracy on Gingrich: No taxes on e-commerce, T1s for all · · Score: 3

Your post makes me wonder if this will be the way popular democracy starts to become possible. It would be a cold day in hell before congress would directly enact such a system, but perhaps by having a more accessable route to our representatives, we can start actually make them represent us the people. In other words: "do their jobs".

  7. Crowding on Gingrich: No taxes on e-commerce, T1s for all · · Score: 1

Just wait 'til your whole neighborhood gets their cable modems hooked up, see if you get 10Mb/s then. ;) I'll take the T1.

  8. JINI's for more than printers on Internet Printer Protocol · · Score: 1

Unless IPP is the first of many other standardized protocols for peripherals (and for other devices not currently associated with computers like VCRs 'n stuff) I wouldn't see this threatening JINI a whole lot. JINIs supposed to work with everything under the Sun(tm). Printers would constitute one of the most readily demonstrable uses of JINI currently though (the way I understand it).

  9. Comment Spill on Slashdot Updates · · Score: 1

It might help to turn your "Comment Spill" up over 100 on your preferences page.

  10. Lutefisk on LA Weekly: The Lonliness of Linux · · Score: 1

My Finn/Swede grandparents told stories of curing lutefisk. For the best flavor, they said it was best to leave the frozen slab of fish out on a particularly chilly evening (only -20F or colder qualifies) let the dog pee on it and soak it in lye. Mmmm-mmmm good.
