  1. Round 3 on Continuing Twists In Microsoft, Intel Cases · · Score: 1

This is only round three in a Heavyweight Fight. See my post Round two from last time. I predict that this will take so long that no one will remember what started this whole affair in the first place. The current business climate is much different from two or even three years ago. By the time this is over the curent version of windows will be as obsolete as "Windows for Workgroups".

  2. In the USA on AOL Time Warner Netscape CNN... and AT&T? · · Score: 2, Interesting

    In the USA...

AOL is the internet (to most people)
Time/Warner is entertainment (to most people)
CNN is news (to most people)
Netscape is the browser (or used to be...)
ATT is long-distance phone service (to most people)

    hmmm.....

Why not buy Microsoft (they are computing to most people)

  3. Beauty is the code (enhance, embrace, and extend) on Software Aesthetics · · Score: 2, Interesting

If you are under the misguided notion that you can write S#!% for code and it doesn't matter, then you will not last long in this world.

Computer programming is not only about making it work, but making your program work well and be maintainable. Sloppy code and poor structure makes maintaining, enhancing, embracing, and extending the code a royal pain in the @$$.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that you are the only one who can fix your code. Someone else has already written it before you and doena better job. Everyone is replaceable. Besides why not make great code and do it well. How much time does it take to make clean and structured code?

Litmus test of a website. Read the source of the first page. Is it clean, does it have extra lines, are there mixed case tags, is the formatting consistent?

These are the ways to judge the results.

Masters make the simple easy and the difficult simple.

  4. virtual team's suck on Extreme Telecommuting · · Score: 2, Interesting

I have a Development team in USA and France. I also have a team of business analsysts all over the world. Which means that I get a break on Saturday for the business people.... from Saturday night (Sunday in Israel is a work day ) till Friday night (end of US work day). And 24x7 for the Development team. (because they work whenever)

    My advise...

If they offer you a PM position for a global project say NO!.

    virtual teams suck

People need to have some interaction in order to have a group goal and synergy. It is much easier to yell across the cube for the database call then to send an email to someone who is asleep.

It is not impossible to have a team work virtually, but it is not as effective as a group that works in the same room.

  6. 3" CD-R in a floppy case on New Philips eXpanium Will Use 3" CDs · · Score: 1

    I use my 3" Memorex(r) Pocket CD-R for backups.
I bought them in mini jewel cases and they came with a little insert so they would fit.
The 3" plastic jewel case is a little bigger than a 3 1/2 floppy.
These little cases fit perfectly in the CaseLogic floppy case.
    I can carry around 12 mini CD-R's.

I like the form factor. (and they're cool)

Is there a difference between a software patent and a EULA?

I mean if you cannot enforce a software patent in Europe then how can you enforce an EULA (End User License Agreement)?

  9. Only round 2 on Microsoft Verdict Vacated · · Score: 2

    This is only Round 2.

There are more appeals and legal manuvering to go. Don't think that this is the end. This issue will not even be in the next round for 90-180 days. Resolution will not be complete for 3-5 years. By then Windows9x will not even be the prominent OS and no one will remember or be using Netscape 3.x. Microsoft strategy is to make this the longest appeal possible. The longer that this trial takes the better for Microsoft.

    Brief recap...

    1. Combination of the browser with the file manager and OS.
    2. Proactive incompatability with other non-Microsoft browsers.
    3. Specific exclusion of Netscape browser.

    This is only round 2.

    This far from over.
