a render daemon is a invaluable tool for those who do professional work and having one in open source or free is a big step in reducing costs for studios. think before you display a total ignorance of the subject.
ye gods - a 3D newbie Blender is pretty powerful, but if you can't appreciate Lightwave's power, pick up a copy of Ray Dream or something "easy." before dissing a 3D prog's interface, consider how many users create marvels with it and how many shows use it. the market usually eliminates those with crummy GUIs, anyway.
When a prog in NT crashes, it crashes lonely, and by itself. in 2 years of NT use, it crashed four times, all because of some royally screwed up drivers.
Evil coporporations? how can corporations force people to do anything? how are they evil? they simply make a product and sell it. they can't tax you or imprison you or enslave you (oh wait, that's a government). they are inherently unevil, because their existence depends on you buying their product or service. Katz shows he is only repeating an ancient mantra - "Capitalism is Evil." he fails to realize that a successful small business turns into (gasp!) a corporation. the problem is that information empowers individuals, and corporations are reduced to service roles. evil corporations fall fast and hard in todays info-rich world; no one buys their stuff if they don't want to. For god's sakes, read Toffler's Powershift.
sure, he should have mentioned that with a cute exterior comes a cute(read: superfluous) GUI. MacOS, even X is a eye-candy mess. it is a flake's OS, because it has ceased to be functional and serious. look at IRIX and NT. who has the most DV and 3D apps? And i thought OS X might come out as a true, workstation OS. who was i fooling?

I hear ya, but Blender needs to do what most popular 3D progs do - integrate the numerical entry as part of the UI, like Lightwave or Maya.
