Trusted - Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing. Security - Freedom from doubt, anxiety, fear, risk or danger. Standard - An acknowledged measure of comparison for quantitative or qualitative value (dictionary.com) I have arrived at a place in my life where I can't and don't trust anyone or anything. The idea of trusting code is silly nonsense to me. So no, Open source cannot be trusted. Wen I explain the great divide between open source and commercial software, I say something like "Linux is a version of a virus that will eventually be responsible for bringing the current evil empire crumbling down. The barbarians from the north brought rome down, and a student from the north Linus Torvalds will be a God who returned to being a man after starting the fire. Linux was/is created/maintained for beauty sake never for the sake of profit or in adherence to a standard" I think Dr. Gene Spafford and the whole civilized would be crazy to rely on or trust the integrity of a work of art like code and should be damn scared of a world without their security and standards. I look forward to our species (human animals) abandoning technology and all other remnants of civilization when it comes time. Until then those of us who tell computers what to do, dont much care what their account balance reads, and really dislike being a user at the end of the day should throw our fuel/code/art into right fire. Chaotic = Beautiful Ordered = Enslaved Jeffro@iv20.com (Note to self, this is the first 2 cents you have contributed to that wonderful work of art know as slashdot, your interfacing with profitware to do it, you have been adding your art/code to the pile not the fire, and you are almost out of your cage/lease. We think it would be nice if you made to jump from Enslaved to Beautiful)
